Total Loss Protection Explained

Your motor insurance may only cover the market value of your vehicle. TLP will make up the shortfall back to the original invoice price or pay off your finance early settlement amount... whichever is the greater.

Although your motor insurance gives you invaluable protection, does it give you all the cover you need if your vehicle is stolen or written off? Many motorists have found that their motor insurance lets them down just when they need it most. That’s because your motor insurance may only cover the current market value of your vehicle, the amount you originally paid is likely to be much higher. Total Loss Protection (TLP) is a simple “top up” to your current motor insurance.

About the cover:

  • TLP is available on all new & used vehicles up to 10 years old and 100,000 miles
  • TLP covers you for a period of 2, 3 or 4 years from the date of purchase
  • TLP is paid out as a supplement to your Comprehensive Motor Insurance
  • TLP covers all factory fitted manufacturer approved accessories
  • TLP covers dealer fitted accessories
  • TLP is subject to a maximum claim limit of £40,000
  • TLP covers up to £250 of your Motor Insurance Excess in the event of a total loss.

Significant Exclusions:

  • Vehicles used as courier or delivery vehicles, taxis, driving school cars or used for hire or reward or road racing, rallying, pace-making or any other competitive event

  • Vehicles modified other than in accordance with the Manufacturer’s specification, where it is determined that the total loss occurred as a result of the modification
  • Vehicles owned by a garage, vehicle trader or any other associated vehicle trade company
  • Where the vehicle has been driven outside the territorial limits and where a motor insurance policy has not been kept in force on that vehicle providing cover equivalent to that enjoyed in the United Kingdom.
